Most FAQs will be answered here about your wedding .
Please feel free to contact me if you have any other questions.
Q: You're based in Gympie, but what if my wedding is in Brisbane?
A: Nothing to be worried about! If your wedding is in Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba or any other place further south, I always drive down the night before and stay with one of my friends in Brisbane. The next day I don’t have to drive that far to photograph your special day.
Q: Should I have an “Unplugged” wedding?
A: Personally I like to recommend an “UNPLUGGED” ceremony and formals.
All too often, these shots are ruined by well meaning guests trying to grab a quick photo.
Unfortunately extra flashes and “roaming eyes” are impossible to fix in post production! Please ask whoever is performing your ceremony to make this announcement…
“Welcome, friends and family!
The couple have asked that you please, turn off your cell phones and put down your cameras.
The photographer will capture how this moment looks to the eye,
And I encourage you all to capture how it feels with your hearts.”
Then let me worry about capturing the photos and let your guests concentrate on having a great time and being there in the moment with you.
Q: What is your approach to wedding photography?
A: My shooting style is candid/documentary. I prefer to capture your day as it happens not how it is set up. The location session can include some guided portraits if desired, but other than that, let your day happen and I will capture it!
Using natural light wherever possible, but at times it’s necessary to use a dash of flash when natural light is insufficient.
Q: What are the benefits of a full day wedding coverage?
A: Lots of things happen at a wedding and you can’t be everywhere at once, it also goes by really quickly so your stunning images are all you will have to relive your beautiful day and remember the special “little” moments.
I’ll try and capture all those cute & little things (which you have probably planned for months, for some brides even years!) From previous experience, I feel a whole day gives you space to breathe and is more relaxing for everybody, the last thing you will want is to feel rushed, you’re there to enjoy yourselves after all!
Q: Is it necessary to have two photographers?
A: No, you don’t need a second shooter. I shoot with two cameras (Canon 5D Mark III) which allows me to capture your day quickly and seamlessly. Where a second photographer can be beneficial, is if the wedding day timeline doesn’t allow for one photographer to cover both preparation photos because the distance is too large between the locations, two photographers can separate and cover both. Another good reason is when you have a very big wedding with a lot of people (150 or more).
Q: I’m really awkward in photos and don’t like to pose, so what now?
A: This is a question I get asked quite a lot. In a world where people are criticised every day on so many levels, it can be hard to feel beautiful. We need to remember that most importantly you are beautiful and stunning to your partner! For most of the day, I will shoot in a documentary style which also helps to take the pressure off as you will just do your own thing. For portraits, I give very easy directions to follow whilst still keeping your expressions natural. I encourage you to be yourselves and have fun, this is YOUR day and it will naturally translate into stunning images.
These days “posing” has a bit of a bad reputation but a little bit of sensitive direction here and there goes a long way to making things look more natural and when you see your beautiful photos back, you will know why you hired a professional. Remember it’s your wedding day and you are a couple in love, so there will be sparks anyway!
Q: Will our photographs be backed up?
A: Definitely! As soon as I get home from your wedding, I back up your photographs to my Mac and a couple of Hard Drives.
Q: Do you have back up gear?
A: Absolutely! I’m always equipped with multiple camera bodies (Canon 5D Mark III which has 2 card slots, in case 1 card could fail!), lenses, flashes, spare batteries, memory cards plus lots of other bits that might come in handy!
Q: Do I receive digital files?
A: Yes! No matter which wedding coverage you choose, you will receive High Resolution print-ready digital files in .jpg format, which aren’t watermarked, supplied on a high quality custom USB stick. As a courtesy, I also provide a rescaled set of lower resolution images ready for sharing on social media.
Q: Do you give us the RAW/unedited photos?
A: No, absolutely not. Editing is 75% of the magic that goes into telling your story, and without that huge step your photographs are only half done.
When you hire Karisma Studios you are hiring me for my style and my artistic interpretation, which is achieved through taking the image as well as hours of editing to reflect the memorable moments of your day.
Q: How many photographs will I get and how long does it take to receive them?
A: Depending on how many hours we agreed on, you can receive up to a minimum of 750 High Resolution JPEG files. There are no limits – if I take more then you will get more – I never hold any back! I will always give you all the photographs that I don’t discard. This doesn’t mean that I give you every single photograph I take, as many are duplications and test shots. I will often shoot several photographs where only one will be used. There are always times when people are blinking or pulling strange faces so I don’t include those in your final story. It takes me around 6-8 weeks to turn around your beautiful wedding photographs.
Q: What if I would like to add more to my Wedding Coverage?
A: Wedding & Guest Albums from $300

If I have to fly for your wedding, please contact me. I’ll always be upfront so you know what to expect, everything is already included in the price so no nasty surprises.
Q: Would you require a booking fee for your wedding photography?
A: To secure your wedding day, I require a 25% non refundable booking fee if your wedding is local. If I have to fly, I’ll include the flights and accommodation fee in the booking fee too as I need to book these beforehand. Together with a signed contract, this will mean your date is guaranteed. The remaining balance is due 1 month before your big day. I can offer interest free payments so you can enjoy less financial pressure leading up to your wedding day if requested provided the balance is cleared 1 month before the big day.
Q: Changing Dates – if we change our wedding date, will we be able to use our booking fee towards another date?
A: Generally yes, but depending on my availability. This is for local weddings only though, where I don’t have to fly.
Q: Do you have insurance & are you a registered business?
A: Yes! I’m a registered business and I have liability insurance with AAMI, which covers up to 5 million.
Q: How can we pay?
A: I accept bank transfer or Visa & Mastercard payments through Paypal, and their normal fees apply, please check their website for conditions.
Q: Any advice for ensuring our day will be picture perfect?
~ Natural light is key! Think big windows and lovely open rooms, rather than down lights and lamps. Please keep that in mind when choosing inside areas for getting ready or saying “I do”. Also please be aware of having the prep area relatively clutter free. A messy floor and bits all over the place will look distracting in the images and in the end you want those to look awesome.
~ The little things that matter. Have all those together or give that responsibility to one of your bridesmaids or groomsmen so you don’t have to think about it. When I arrive, it will save us a lot of precious time on your wedding day, trust me! Think of: dress, gifts, jewellery, bouquet(s), shoes, cufflinks, (bow) ties not to forget the rings of course and all the other cute and little things you want memorised in your images.
~ Evenly shaded areas. If having an outdoor ceremony, nothing is worse than dark patches and bright over exposed blobs all over your beautiful faces (and no I can’t Photoshop that out). So it’s best if it is evenly shaded for the time of day of your ceremony. I strongly recommend having some kind of shade for your ceremony, because squinty, racoon-eyes never look great! If you can’t for any reason, make sure the persons face with most make-up on is in the shade (so it will not ruin the make-up as much).
~ The golden hour is the best time for the location session, usually between 4pm – 6pm depending on the season. If possible try to have your ceremony earlier in the afternoon, this leaves more time for us to travel to the location and not be too rushed for those private shots. Please allow yourself plenty of time for this part of your wedding day. More time means a photographer can get more creative and that results again in images you’ll treasure forever.
~ Rain or storm? That’s fine with me. We can’t change the weather so we might as well embrace it. As long as you are happy to roll with it then I am too. If not, lets make sure we have a back up plan, such as a marquee or building if it does start to pour down. If it is a torrential and I can only take photos indoors, I am happy to offer a post-wedding shoot for you if needed.
~ Venues. Please check if it has the desired decor, think about carpet colours and your theme, whether any paintings are to your taste, since these will all potentially show in your images.
~ Alcohol. Try not to start too early! It’s your day but it’s a long day too, it’s so easy to get dehydrated and cranky if we are out and about, have fun but remember to look after yourself.
