Q: Why is some professional photography so expensive?
A: A professional photographer makes a significant investment in computer technology, pro quality camera’s, lenses, back ups and many other pieces of equipment to do the job properly. Not only that, but we continually upgrade our post processing programs like Lightroom and Photoshop to name a few. Advanced editing software is necessary to create beautiful images from the RAW camera format and it comes at a high cost. Many hours of studying and continuous development in expertise and experience mean that your photos will have the quality you expect. It’s also important to appreciate that for every hour your photographer spends at your session/wedding there will be many hours spent in post processing, basically turning that boring RAW image into a stunning image you will cherish forever.
They also should have a proper liability insurance (well we do!) in case something unfortunate happens on the day. All these things will be reflected in the price. Please check that you are comparing like for like before making your booking, a very low price will usually mean that compromises are made behind the scenes. In the end, it’s a job that has to put food on the table like any other job and trust me it’s not paying for a Ferrari! 😉 We have tried to be very reasonable with our prices so that anybody can hire a professional photographer without breaking the bank.
Q: Who chooses the photography location for the session?
A: You choose where you would like to have your photography session.
It can either be at home or on location, wherever you feel the most comfortable and happy. If you can’t decide a place, we can discuss what you love and the feeling you want to create in your images so we can find a place together.
I’m a bit different than most photographers. If I don’t know the area, I always try to go to our location beforehand and find great spots to take awesome shots with you, this will save us a lot of time on the day of the session. The light in the early morning or around sunset is beautiful and soft, which will be the best time for us to get together if possible.
Q: What to wear for the photography session?
A: The best thing to do after you book your session with me, is to look for clothing that colour co-ordinates well. Please avoid big brand names, logos or characters like “Mickey Mouse”, since it’s very distracting and can look tacky (unless it’s your absolute favourite!) and no it doesn’t have to be all white in fact it’s better when everyone is wearing different but complimentary colours. Please don’t wait till the day before to choose, since it can be super stressful finding out certain things won’t fit anymore or you forgot about that massive stain on his shirt and have to go to the shops to buy new clothes.
A great way to create more interest in your photographs is to wear accessories (think of jewellery, hats, funky boots etc.) and adding textures (scarves, belts, ruffled skirt etc.) Please don’t wear too many patterns (checks are the worst!) as it can be too distracting. Lots of people in the same image, wearing all sorts of different patterns, just won’t look good and looks messy!
Q: How much do I have to “pose” for our photography session?
A: Love posing? Cool, we can we heaps creative. Not a big fan of it at all? Not a problem either. If you don’t like posed shots at all, just let me know and I promise I will keep it to a bare minimum. When we have the session, I will always try to have a couple of portrait style photographs while the rest are relaxed and informal to bring out the best in you.
I will never over pose or ask you do things you don’t feel comfortable with! It’s about you and the beautiful connections you have among each other! I am there to create stunning images you’ll love, ready to hang in the house for everybody to see. If you prefer not to have a certain style of photography, please let me know, I am very easy to get along with and my absolute mission is to give you photographs you’ll love for the rest of your life!
Q: Will our photographs be backed up?
A: Definitely! As soon as I get home from your session/event, I back up the photos to my Mac and a couple of hard drives as RAW files. I keep them on the memory cards until all back ups are completed. Once the photographs are edited in Lightroom, I save a further copy as JPEGs. I always keep a copy JPEG files permanently – you never know when a client might come back to you asking for a copy for some reason, so I never delete them.
Q: Do you give us the RAW/unedited photos?
A: Sorry but the answer will be no. RAW files are like film negatives back in the olden days. You need a special program to open these files and even if you could, they would look very plain and boring. Editing is as much a part of the package as taking the photographs. When you hire Karisma Studios you are hiring me for my style and my artistic interpretation, which is achieved through taking the photograph as well as hours of editing to reflect the magic of your day. It’s like asking a master chef for the ingredients and his recipe, then cooking the dish yourself and expecting it to taste the same. We also deliver you the highest quality JPEG images via an online private gallery.
Q: Can I only get prints via your business or am I allowed to print off my own photographs?
A: All of your photographs come with full print rights as long as it’s for personal use! You can share them with friends and family and are more than welcome to choose where to get them printed.
Q: What is "Refer A Friend"?
A: I love it that my clients refer me to their family and friends. To show my deep appreciation for your photography referrals, I offer you a $50 credit for each family or friend you refer to me, which you can use towards purchasing prints or a future session. I will also gift $50 credit to the family/friend you refer which they can put towards their session or any additional products from Karisma Studios, so it’s a win win for everyone!
Q: Do you travel & do you charge for travel?
A: I love to travel! There are no travel fees for Engagements, Lifestyle/Portraits, Events and Commercial within the Gympie area, but travel fees may apply for regional and interstate bookings, please don’t be afraid to ask as I only cover actual cost of fuel.
Q: Do you require a deposit for your photography?
A: Should you decide to choose me as your photographer, I ask for a $100 non refundable booking fee to secure your date and the final payment has to be made within 2 weeks of your session. For weddings, please go the “Wedding > FAQ” page for a more comprehensive explanation.
I offer interest free payments if you require, so you can enjoy less financial pressure leading up to your session.
Q: How can we pay?
A: I accept bank transfer or Visa & Mastercard payments through Paypal, and their normal fees apply, please check their website for conditions.
